In view of the on -going global corona pandemic, a workshop was conducted on Epedemic Preparedness at Badr Al Samaa Hospital, Barka on 04th February 2020 by Diseases Surveillance & Control Department South Batinah Region, Ministry of Health Rustaq in association with Badr Al Samaa Hospital, Barka .
The workshop was headed by the Dignitaries of the Ministry Of Health of Rustaq , Dr. Zayid Khalifa Sulaiman Al Mayahi (Director of Disease Surveillance & Control), Mr. Bader Theyab Yaqoob Al Sa’adi (Director of Private Health Establishments), Ph.Hassan Khalifa Alghafri (Director of pharmaceutical care and Medical Stores), Dr. Rashid Said Hamed Al Sa’adi (Director of Primary Health Care), Mr. Nasser Said Shaikhan Al-Shaqsi (Regional Infection Control In charge), Dr.Khalid Salim Khalfan Al-Dhuhli (Head of Communicable Disease Department), Ms. Azza Sulieman Khalfan Al Hattali (Regional Immunization Program Supervisor). The clinical and non-clinical delegates in various public and private hospitals from South Batinah region were actively involved in the workshop.
The aim of the workshop is to identify the suspected novel corona 2019 infected case right from the first point of contact with the help of few simple techniques and questions by healthcare professionals in the South Batinah region.
The introduction topic was the Epedemic Preparedness addressed by Dr. Zayid Khalifa Sulaiman Al Mayahi (Director of Disease Surveillance & Control). He enumerated various epidemiological aspect of navel corona virus 2019.The second session was done by Dr. Khalid Salim Khalfan Al-Dhuhli (Head of Communicable Disease Department) about the natural history of corona virus, clinical features, lab diagnostics and treatment was specified in detail. Mr. Nasser Said Shaikhan Al-Shaqsi (Regional Infection Control In charge) spoke about the infection control measures, precautions that have to be undertaken by the hospitals as well as the healthcare professionals and ABC of preparedness of each institution. Ms. Azza Sulieman Khalfan Al Hattali (Regional Immunization Program Supervisor) gave lecture on the role of the education and awareness during the epidemics.
The practicum was followed by the elaborate session of discussion and many of the participants came out with the practical issues and doubt, while dealing with the suspected cases .The workshop was concluded awareness for the healthcare professionals for early identification of a suspected case of novel corona virus, isolation, treatments, quarantine and prevention of spread of the infection.
The Healthcare system of the Batinah region is fully equipped and prepared for the possible epidemic of novel corona 2019 infection with private and public sector working hand by hand. Badr Al Samaa Group of Hospitals is also striving to raise awareness on Corona Virus and has taken many initiatives on social media, in-house communication, awareness material distribution and health awareness talks by their clinicians.
